Guest Lecture by Dr S P Parashar for Students @Jaipuria Jaipur

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur was privileged to have an eminent international guest for session on “Introduction to Financial Services and Markets & Financial Statement Analysis” for the students of PGDM 2014-16 and PGDM 2015-17 respectively in its campus .

Dr. S.P. Parashar, Managing Director, Centre for Safe and Sound Banking, USA and former Director of IIM Indore and Visiting Faculty, Rady School of Management, USA; Thunderbird School of Global Management, USA had an elaborated session on the topics with the students.

Talking about Finance as the subject of interest, Dr S P Parashar helped the students to have a better understanding of Global Financial Systems, and very precisely he covered about money, capital, forex and commodity market. He also enlightened the students about the Banking Regulation and Management along with Money, Credit and Financial System. He further explained how this global financial system works and who are the intermediaries in it, in addition to this he discussed about the Concept of M1 and M2.

During his session, he added that banking is an important aid to industry and trade, and that it also provides ample services to the public in general. Banking may be regarded as an indispensable part of the economy of every country. The significance of banking has increased all over the world with the rise in income levels and growth in the volume of financial transactions. He also emphasised the need for a strong banking regulation to ensure that no bank or financial institution has such a concentrated amount of risk that could prove to be detrimental to the banking and financial system. In his session he also discussed about pros and cons of over-regulation and what are the problems faced by the management.

Moving ahead students got insight on NBS (Non Banking Sector), US Financial market structure and contribution of different sectors to it. Additionally, Dr. S.P. Parashar discussed about the importance of having Financial Statement Analysis skill in a budding manager.

In the session of ‘Financial services and Markets’, Dr Parashar shared with the students the Structure of Financial System. He further elaborated his session by focusing on the following points

• Financial Services and markets

• Shadow Banking

• Financial Markets and Challenges

Dr Parashar in his session on ‘Financial Statement Analysis” discussed different tools of analysing financial statements. He mainly concentrated on the following techniques:

• Ratio Analysis

• Common size Statement analysis

• Du Pont Analysis

Session was taken forward discussing about the implications of different ratios like profitability, turnover, leverage and liquidity ratio etc. and the importance of Du Pont analysis from different perspective.

Towards the end, Dr. S.P. Parashar accentuated an important mantra for life, personal as well as professional.
